Appraisal and Performance Management Training Workshop

One of the most difficult tasks a manager has to perform is that of staff appraisal. Agreeing to the objectives of staff appraisal as well as making effective use of staff appraisal can improve the performance of your business. A well designed system of appraisal can help you in assessing your staff and give good constructive feedback as well as praise them for their good work. It is also a chance to further clarify the objectives of the company and the employees.

A good appraisal should motivate your employees. So how can you make appraisals effective and powerful sources of staff motivation?

During this one day workshop on Appraisal and Performance Management you will look at "managing" as a process that is ongoing; one that focuses on helping people develop their day-to-day performance.

Delegates will learn:

  • To set SMART objectives and targets for individuals based on organisation needs
  • How to monitor, measure & assess individual performance on ongoing basis, e.g. use of observation and other means of tracking performance
  • Coaching and feedback skills that can be used on regular basis, e.g. Assertive Push for giving balanced feedback and constructive criticism and how to coach an individual to get them to give feedback to themselves.
  • The concept of Internal & External Referencing in relation to how much praise and affirmation an individual needs.
  • How to run an effective performance appraisal interview, what preparation should be done by both parties, what to focus on during an interview
  • What makes performance appraisal conversations challenging?
  • How can we get around these issues and make every performance appraisal a positive experience?
  • Give effective feedback & Handle difficult messages
  • Set achievable goals and expectations
  • Support other people's development
  • Build confidence and morale
  • Set effective boundaries
  • Know what to do when the goal posts change
  • An Appraisal & Evaluation form to suit you
  • Tools for day-to-day Performance Management

It will help you to provide direct reports and enable you to help develop the skills and confidence of the person being appraised. It will enable you to give honest feedback and not avoid awkward issues.

At the end of the day, a well planned and run appraisal meeting can have a powerful motivational impact on your staff.

An excellent day! The trainer from Bristol Business College managed to get all levels (Directors, Managers, Supervisors) on a level playing field, much participation, made us all think and some fun as well.  Really pleased with how it went and three members of staff who have had no training in this subject were very impressed and reassured about where to start etc. The trainer had a very good approach and it was enjoyed by all.

We wanted to let you know personally how useful and enjoyable the 2 days training have been for all of us. We loved the open forum/workshop style and we felt able to discuss many more topics than those laid down prior to the day. We were able to talk openly about sensitive info without anyone feeling persecuted. We felt the meetings were well chaired and the focus was kept where necessary, and we were provided with tools to use in practise.
